Gothic Movie Week At Italy's Cineplex Astoria: A Tale Of Vampires And Goth Girls

Whenever I travel abroad I like to take at least one day to visit a local cinema and watch a local movie. During my last trip to Italy I decided it was time to visit the Cineplex Astoria, as I had heard so much about it.

Of course I wanted to watch an Italian movie and it just happened to be Gothic Movie week at the Cineplex, so I had many interesting titles to choose from. I also found the crowd to be truly interesting, with local Italian gothic girls dressed up for the occasion.nMost of the titles were classic Italian Gothic Horror movies, something I don't really get to enjoy back at home.

I made a classical selection of some of the very best films in the genre, starting with I Vampiri, a 1956 film by Riccardo Freda and followed by Anton Giulio Majano's Atom Age Vampire and the more recent Dark Waters, from genius director Mariano Baino. Just imagine, Italian horror movies, with no subtitles and surrounded by screaming local gothic girls; I was really getting a taste of what Italian horror cinema is all about!
